Aniqa Ahmed
Founder, Director & Clinical Lead
Disabled Voices CIC was founded by Aniqa Ahmed, a therapist, disability advocate, and person with lived experience of disability.
In 2021, Aniqa developed Long Covid. What began as a virus expected to last a few weeks left her bedbound and significantly unwell for over a year. At the time, she was just weeks away from completing her psychologist training, having already completed 99% of the programme. Suddenly, she found herself navigating the profound life changes that disability can bring.
Through her own experience, Aniqa became increasingly aware of the barriers disabled people face when seeking support. Alongside the physical challenges of disability came isolation, loss, changes in identity, and a lack of disability-informed understanding within many support services.
As both a therapist and a disabled person, she recognised a significant gap: disabled people needed accessible spaces where they could talk openly, feel understood, and be met with compassion rather than judgement.
This experience inspired the creation of Disabled Voices CIC.
Aniqa’s vision is to build a community where disabled people feel heard, valued, and connected. Through emotional support, peer connection, and disability-led services, Disabled Voices CIC aims to reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and ensure that no disabled person has to navigate their journey alone.
Because every disabled voice matters.
